WELCOME
PRELUDE          My Father’s World – Shepherd
*CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 36:5-10)
Leader: God’s steadfast love extends throughout the heavens, and His faithfulness to the clouds.
People: God’s justice and righteousness are so great that God saves humans and animals alike.
Leader: How precious is the steadfast love of the LORD! All people can take refuge in the shadow of God’s wings.
People: They feast on the abundance of God’s house, and they drink from the river of God’s delights.
Leader: The LORD is the fountain of life, and in God’s light, we see light.
People: As morning breaks among us, may all who know the LORD continue to experience God’s steadfast love.

*HYMN OF PRAISE           Morning Has Broken      #469
Morning has broken Like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken Like the first bird.
Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!
Praise for them, springing Fresh from the Word!

Sweet the rain’s new fall Sunlit from Heaven,
Like the first dewfall On the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness Of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness Where God’s feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight, Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, Praise every morning,
God’s re-creation Of the new day!

PRAYERS OF CONFESSION
    God of life and love,
although You fill the vessels of our lives with the abundance of Your grace,
we do not always embrace Your gift of new life.
So we ask that You would forgive us for those occasions when we have been insensitive to
Your life-changing word.
Have mercy upon us when we have been indifferent to Your messengers and miracles.
Deliver us from those instances when we have been unfaithful to Your mission and ministry.
Redeem us from our sin, O God, and make us new again,
so that we may be filled with Your fullness
and celebrate the gracious works revealed through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray.
(Silent)
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS (adapted from Ephesians 2:8-10)
Leader: By grace we have been saved through faith, and this is not our own doing; it is the gift of God.
People: We are what God has made us, created in Christ Jesusfor good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
Leader: Friends, believe the good news of the gospel:
People: Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

SCRIPTURE                                                                                 Isaiah 62:1-5
1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and hersalvation like a burning torch.
2 The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give.
3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you, and your land shall be married.
5 For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your builder marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

SCRIPTURE                                                                                 John 2:1-11
1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
2  Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”
4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern isthat to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mothersaid to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Now standing there were six stone water jarsfor the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.
7  Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.
8 He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.” So they took it.
9 When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom
10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
11 Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

MEDITATION                                                                  A New Way in the World
ANTHEM                 How Can I Keep From Singing?                               – Smith
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH                      from The Confession of 1967, 9.37-38
The church disperses to serve God wherever its members are,
          at work or play,
in private or in the life of society.
Their prayer and Bible study are part of the church’s worship and theological reflection.
Their witness is the church’s evangelism.
Their daily action in the world is the church in mission to the world.
The quality of their relation with other persons is the measure of the church’s fidelity.
Each member is the church in the world,
endowed by the Spirit with some gift of ministry,
and is responsible for the integrity of his or her witness in each particular       situation.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
. . . Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us notinto temptation, but deliver usfrom evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

INVITATION TO GIVE

PRAYER OF DEDICATION
    God of extravagant grace,
who bestows upon us the gifts of life and love,
who blesses the world with beauty,
and who fills our hearts with the desire to give,
accept, we pray, these offerings as a token of our abiding love.
As we seek to share Your grace upon the planet,
grant that our tithes and talents would be utilized
            to promote Your work,
and to bring peace, justice, and comfort to all the world,
through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen.

*HYMN                     Come Sing, O Church, in Joy                    #430
Come sing, O church, in joy! Come join, O church, in song!
For Christ the Lord has led us Through the ages long!
In bold accord come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!

Long years have come and gone And still God reigns supreme,
Empowering us to catch the vision, dream the dream!
In bold accord come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!

Let courage be our friend, Let wisdom be our guide,
As we in mission magnify the Crucified!
In bold accord come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!

Come sing, O church, in joy! Come join, O church, in song!
For Christ the Lord has triumphed o’er the ages long!
In bold accord come celebrate the journey now and praise the Lord!
